Technology
Fenway High School is often
on the cutting edge of technology. Whether it be the use of online
narrative reports or student websites, digital video editing or digital
presentations, we do our best with limited resources to provide our
students with a solid technological foundation.
Within each subject area,
students develop an intermediate to advanced comprehension of various
computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher,
Internet Explorer and Frontpage. Other software, such as bridge building
programs and SAT and MCAS preparation programs are also used to enhance a
student's education.
All students at Fenway have
user accounts and all students are expected to save all work from all four
years. Fenway also provides a personal website for each student. Students
are required to post their senior science portfolio to the web, which is
then viewed and graded by a panel of teachers. This digital portfolio
represents their best work from their high school career. It includes
graphs, charts, images, lab reports, and much more. The Humanities and
Math teams have also begun to use student websites as part of their
curriculum.
Fenway and BPS provide
every student with an email account. Students may use this account as
often as they like, both from within and outside the school. We often
encourage students to email work to teachers, but also to use email as an
alternative to floppy disks, sending work to and from school and home for
editing.
Beyond computer technology,
students at Fenway have access to digital video and still cameras, along
with the technology to edit video that they have captured.
BECAUSE OF THE HIGH
EXPECTATIONS FENWAY SETS FOR EACH STUDENT, THESE SKILLS OFTEN MATCH THOSE
TAUGHT AT THE COLLEGE AND PROFESSIONAL LEVELS. WITH THESE SKILLS, COMES
GREATER RESPONSIBILITY. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO USE THESE TECHNOLOGIES
WITH CARE AND RESPECT.
