Re: DR Humanitarian Project Update
Dear Parents and Donors:
Thank you for your financial contribution in support of our student humanitarian service trip to the Dominican Republic. The students and I are truly grateful. The purpose of this letter is to express my gratitude as well as explain some changes.
As you know, a group of fifteen students were selected to participate in humanitarian / volunteer work efforts at a school in Sabaneta, Dominican Republic through The DREAM Project. Performing humanitarian work in another country will allow our students to experience the community efforts needed to make our world a better place to live in, and impact how they seem themselves and what they can offer their own families and communities.
The trip was originally scheduled to take place in February 2010. Due to various circumstances, the trip will now take place from April 11-16, 2010. The project will still be located at La Libertad Montessori (Elementary) School in Sabaneta. In addition to its current students, the school is also hosting children orphaned in the earthquake in Haiti. My students and I are grateful for this opportunity to assist children from both countries.
Fenway High School, a 501(c) (3) organization, is still seeking ($6,000) donations from various private and public organizations, businesses, and members of the community to make this project a reality. The total trip cost is $20,000, which includes program tuition of $12,000 and airfare for all students. In addition, through raffles, candy sales and other school activities, students are raising money to cover the costs for fellow participants facing financial hardship.
